Call for Papers ‘The Making of the Humanities X’, November 3-5, 2022, Pittsburgh

The 10th conference on the history of the humanities, The Making of the Humanities X, will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 3-5, 2022. We are delighted that Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) together with the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) will organize the conference.

The deadline for papers and panels is May 15, 2022.

12 December 2023: Lecture at VUB Brussels: "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?"

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is. 14-15 November 2023: Online Workshop "Epistemic Transfer in the Humanities"

On 14 November I will give a brief presentation to introduce the workshop on Epistemic Transfer in the History of the Humanities. Why and how do humanities disciplines borrow knowledge from one another? Under what conditions has knowledge transfer been (un)successful in the past?
