My book "World of Patterns" has been published in Italian

I am delighted to announce that my book World of Patterns: A Global History of Knowledge has now been published in Italian as La ricerca dei principi ultimi: Per una storia globale della conoscenza, in the new series Storia e filosofia delle scienze e della cultura edited by Alessandro Pagnini edited by Alessandro Pagnini and published by Edizioni ETS.

The Italian edition was translated by Valeria Poli, Marco Salucci and Marta Vero, and expertly curated by Luca Sciortino, who also contributed an insightful philosophical preface that adds a new dimension to the book.

A free preview (anteprima) is available online.

World of Patterns is now available in English, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Chinese, and Italian. Japanese and Arabic editions will follow soon.

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is. 14-15 November 2023: Online Workshop "Epistemic Transfer in the Humanities"

On 14 November I will give a brief presentation to introduce the workshop on Epistemic Transfer in the History of the Humanities.
