Issue 6.1 of History of Humanities has been published

The latest issue of History of Humanities is now online! With a Theme section on “Sounds of Language—Languages of Sound”, a Forum section on “The Rise and Decline of ‘Colonial Humanities'”, two regular articles, 2 review essays, and 13 book reviews.

Two quotes from respectively the Theme and the Forum sections:

“Our findings support authors who have recently questioned the supposed divide between the humanities and sciences.”

“The humanities are still in urgent need of being decolonized and deprovincialized.”

12 December 2023: Lecture at VUB Brussels: "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?"

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is. On 14 November I will give a brief presentation to introduce the workshop on Epistemic Transfer in the History of the Humanities.
