I am delighted to announce that my new book "Waarom ben ik hier?" ("Why Am I Here?") was published by Prometheus. It contains a world history of the search for meaning and purpose from prehistory to the present. I also derive a number of patterns and underlying principles from the many ways people assign meaning to their existence. I argue that meaning-making is a form of systematic knowledge, which is however different from scientific knowledge.
