My book "The Unique Animal" is reviewed in the journal Behaviour

Although my book Het unieke dier has not yet been published in English, it has already been reviewed in the English-written journal Behaviour.

"All in all, the book reads effortlessly, and it is amazing how much scientific literature is included. I suspect that Frans de Waal would be enthusiastic about this book. Rens Bod emphasizes that we are on the same continuum as other animals, no matter what kind of characteristic you can think of, which De Waal has repeatedly emphasized as well. Even when it comes to recursion, we are on a continuum, but only humans can use recursion in an unlimited way, what ultimately makes humans unique. As every species is unique in its own way."

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is.
