Issue 9.2 of History of Humanities has been published, with open access Theme on the African Humanities.

History of Humanities 9.2 has been published. It contains a special issue (“Theme”) on the Classics of the Humanities in Africa, with introductions to foundational texts from the 11th to the 21st century. The foundational texts themselves can be found on the Resources page of historyofhumanities.org. The latest issue of HOH also contains 4 full regular articles and 12 book reviews.

12 December 2023: Lecture at VUB Brussels: "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?"

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is.
