Conference Program "The Making of the Humanities IV" is online

We've finalized the program of the forthcoming conference "The Making of the Humanities IV" in Rome.

Main conference features: three keynote speakers, 70 papers on the history of the humanities in Europe, Asia and the Americas, several panels and other events.

Special event: Launch of the journal "History of Humanities" by University of Chicago Press

12 December 2023: Lecture at VUB Brussels: "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?"

On 12 December at 16.15h, I will give a talk at the KIIP seminar entitled "What kind of knowledge is the pursuit of meaning?". In this talk I will present a longue durée exploration of meaning-making from a global perspective. I argue that a total of 185 distinct meaning-making practices can be discerned that can be grouped into 30 themes. I discuss a number of general patterns and principles that can be found in meaning-making practices across the world and will go into the question as to what kind of knowledge meaning-making actually is. 14-15 November 2023: Online Workshop "Epistemic Transfer in the Humanities"

On 14 November I will give a brief presentation to introduce the workshop on Epistemic Transfer in the History of the Humanities. Why and how do humanities disciplines borrow knowledge from one another? Under what conditions has knowledge transfer been (un)successful in the past?
